Western Gold 2: Double Barrel Slot Machine: Review & Demo
Microgaming is working once again with Just For The Win, preparing to release a new slot machine together. This time, it’s going to be a brand new Wild West slot that we’re going to get from them, and it’s going to be called Western Gold 2: Double Barrel. As the name implies, this is actually a sequel, to a game that we saw launched a couple of years ago.
Western Gold 2: Double Barrel proposes a setup that gets 5x4 reels, along with 40 active win lines. Using mostly its powerful features to get you there, this slot is capable of paying extremely well, even as much as 25,000x the stake, all while its Return to Player sits at 96.15%. Speaking of those powerful features, the list includes both free spins and Super free spins, along with multipliers, wilds, and several scatters.
Western Gold 2 Betting and Prizes
The complete range of bets available in Western Gold 2: Double Barrel will start from a minimum of $0.20, and will reach a maximum at $20.
Western Gold 2 is capable of much better rewards than its predecessor. The top jackpot was increased from 10,000x to 25,000x for the sequel, all while keeping the same High volatility rating. Multipliers and special prizes are there for the player to use in order to get to that kind of payout. I’d expect this to be possible during regular or Super free spins, not for the paid ones.
There will be several RTP values possible, but I’d obviously suggest you look for the highest one, of 96.15%.
Slot Features
Western Gold 2: Double Barrel gets several powerful features, but the easiest one to explain is the wild. Used here in the same way that we’ve seen in thousands of other slots, it’s going to be represented by the W logo, and will be a simple replacement that will be useful when the symbol appears next to matching symbols. Together, they can form winning combinations that wouldn’t have been possible without the wild there.
Another powerful one, even though it’s incredibly simple, is the scatter symbol that shows a Cash Barrel, and which will be able to pay big prizes just by landing enough of them in view. At least 4 Cash Barrels are required for some kind of prize to be paid out, though the top one of 10,000x the stake needs 12 of these symbols in view.
The next level comes from the slot’s free spins. Those require special Sheriff Badge symbols, inscribed with the Free Spins logo on them. Three scatters, landing on the reels 2-4, will get you 3 rounds in this feature. There is the option to reset the number of rounds, if you can get scatters to land, or Mustangs to show up and bring you modifiers.
This mode allows you to collect Cash Barrel scatters, so that you can get paid once the feature ends. The number of scatters decides what prize you get then, and it could go up to 10,000x the stake.
There is potential beyond those scatter prizes though, and the Mustang modifiers can help with that. A random one will come when you get the Mustang to land on the 5th reel. It could be an extra free spin beyond the 3 that you start with, but it could also be a higher multiplier, a collect for the prizes currently shown on the Barrel, or even access to the Super Free Spins.
There are also Super Free Spins, as I mentioned, and you have a couple of ways to get inside. One is through the Mustang modifiers, during free spins. Another is through the same 3 scatters, if you also get 2 Wranglers on the 1st and 5th reels. The difference is that in this mode you will claim the prize from the Cash Barrel each spin.
Theme & Design
Don’t expect too much in terms of story. It’s going to be a Wild West style design, similar to what we’ve seen elsewhere in the past. It’s one of the better-looking new slots in this category though, and that could be a major advantage.
As for what the symbols show off, some of them are themed (boots, two pistols, hat, playing cards), while others are classics (Seven and the three variants of the Bar symbols). Features come via W logos, Wranglers, Sheriff’s Badge, or Cash Barrels.
Conclusion
Western Gold 2: Double Barrel is a decent option for a lot of players these days, especially if they’re used to its high volatility, and they can stomach it as they aim for the 25,000x top jackpot. As is usually the case, I recommend it if you can find the highest RTP version.
