Maui Mischief Slot Machine: Review & Demo
The islands of Hawaii have been a big source of inspiration over the years, especially for slot developers, and Maui Mischief is one of those that prove it. As an Old Skool Studios game, it might not be coming from a company you recognize, but it’s a Microgaming exclusive, so it should be easy enough to find at the best Microgaming casinos anyway.
You form your combinations with 3+ matching symbols, on 5x3 reels and 25 paylines. Getting the right combinations, at the right time, could lead to wins of 3,000x the round’s stake, or $225,000 cash. To get to that point, you have scatters, regular and stacked substitutes, 2x and 3x multipliers, along with free spins. In a game which has a decent RTP, of 96.47%, the volatility is announced as medium to high.
Maui Mischief Betting and Prizes
25 lines are deployed each spin, and the wager for each one will be between $0.01 and $3. Since the lines are fixed, the total amount can be somewhere between $0.25 (minimum) and $75 (maximum bet).
You get a potential win of up to 3,000x in Maui Mischief, but that’s just the highest point one can reach, not a common return. Furthermore, you’d likely need a combination of free spins (3x multipliers) and regular wild multipliers (2x), alongside a lot of high value regular wins, to get that much.
A very low chance at a big win is pretty much the standard for slots such as these, but the 96.47% RTP looks good even though the volatility is medium-high.
Slot Features
At a first glance, you don’t see a lot of great features in Maui Mischief, but they tend to add up and they have decent potential when combined.
For starters, there are wild symbols which can land, and they occupy anywhere from 1 to 3 positions on a reel. All wilds have a 2x multiplier, which will be used to boost the value of winning combinations that they contribute to.
Second, via scattered Maui Hooks, you can get a feature with free spins. A small picking feature, with 1 to 3 choices for 3 to 5 triggering scatters, gets you as many as 60 rounds. Once the spins start up, you retrigger them just by landing additional scatters.
All wins get a 3x multiplier in this mode, and if 2x wild multipliers are present, they work together and boost regular combinations by 6x. Chances are, that this is the time where you’re most likely to get paid the most.
Theme & Design
You’re going to Hawaii, and you’re going to find volcano covered islands, with palm trees everywhere, and a number of appropriate symbols, though there are some that don’t quite fit the story as well. I think you’re going to enjoy the design, but there are plenty which look even better, all while using the same tropical inspiration.
As for the symbols, these include a Tiki Wild, a scatter with a Maui Hook, a Male, Female, Sun, Moon, plus the Royals going from J to A.
Conclusion
Maui Mischief slot has enough to offer its players, but due to a higher volatility level, I wouldn’t expect everyone to love it. I appreciated the mix of multipliers, they provide the slot with the little bit of excitement which was needed to make it fun.
