Hyper Joker Star Slot Machine: Review & Demo

After the original Hyper Joker, and then the Gold version of it, we’re now seeing a third slot machine that’s part of this series. Hyper Joker Star will soon be released by Microgaming and Gameburger Studios. You can expect it to feature the same fruit style design as the others, with the Joker as the main character for it. It has modern graphics, but with a retro influence, and a couple of features that have proven to be popular with players.

A top jackpot of up to 5,000x the stake will be claimed in Hyper Joker Star, and that’s not at all hard to believe, once you look at the 243 ways to win present on its 5 reels, or at the features which are used. Unfortunately, the slot also comes with a lower RTP than most, at just 94.10%. As for the big features that you will get from it, those take the form of wilds, scatters, free spins, rolling reels, increasing multipliers, and even a Jackpot Wheel which will trigger at random.

Betting and Prizes

Spending doesn’t need to get out of hand in Hyper Joker Star, as the values available are between $0.20 and $40. Everyone should be able to find a bet that they can work with, within that range.

Hyper Joker Star can pay a decent amount either through its regular combinations (and up to 15x multipliers) or through a Jackpot Wheel that spins to reveal a fixed jackpot. Either way, the cap on how much you can claim in a single round is set at 5,000x the stake. It feels low, given the potential of the game’s features. An explanation comes from the very low RTP, of just 94.10%.

Hyper Joker Star Slot Features

An important part of this new slot machine, the Rolling Reels are going to follow after rounds where you’re forming winning combinations. As is typical for it, it removes any winning symbols present at the time, lets others drop down in those spots, and then can retrigger if additional wins result from this.

As you get through multiple Rolls in a single spin, you also get an improved multiplier for the next wave of wins. It goes from 1x to 2x, 3x, and then to 5x. These are just the base game values, they get even better during free spins.

You’re going to notice that Jokers show up on the reels, acting as replacements for all other symbols, even scatters. This makes up in part for the fact that Jokers can only land on reels 2-4.

Another thing that makes the Jokers important, is that they are used to giving you a chance at the Jackpot bonus game. You collect the Joker Wilds that land in a single round, throughout all Rolls, and the more of them you have, the better the odds of getting the Jackpot Wheel. If you do, it spins and reveals a prize for you, including one of the three fixed jackpots (going up to the Grand Jackpot, valued at 5,000x).

With three scatters (Free Spins logo), you can get 8 free games to trigger. If there are additional symbols that contribute (wilds included), you get 8 more rounds for every new way. You also have the possibility to retrigger this feature.

In the free spins mode, you are getting tripled multipliers, at all levels. This means that you start from 3x, and then thanks to rolling reels you can end up as high as 15x with the multipliers applied.

Theme & Design

It looks very much like a classic, if you check out its symbols, even if the quality of the design is a lot higher than what you’d get from older slots. Hyper Joker Star just screams that it wants attention, using bright colors and lights for every symbol and the entire wall from the background. It sort of looks like a TV game show set, if you check out the background, and its Wheel of Fortune.

Starting with the lowest paying symbols first, we discover images of the card suits, all four of them, then of the cherries, a red dice, a couple of casino chips, a bell, a bright dollar sign, and a Red Seven. Two feature symbols follow one with the Free Spins logo, the other with the Joker as the Wild.

Conclusion

Hyper Joker Star could be a fine option, if it wasn’t for that low Return to Player, of just 94.10%. The payouts could be better as well, but I do like the features that it comes with.
