Dragons Cache Slot Machine: Review & Demo

Dragons Cache Slot Demo

Made popular through stories, movies, and even games, the idea that dragons are owners of great treasures has caught deep roots. We see it implemented in Dragon's Cache as well, one more slot machine with fantasy and medieval roots, this time available via SpinPlay Games and Games Global (Microgaming’s old platform).

Dragon's Cache offers 5x4 reels, along with the 20 active lines required to form winning combinations. A top prize of 5,000x the stake is on the line, and I’m satisfied with that promise since the excellent prize is available from a medium volatility slot. RTP is OK as well, 96.47% being its highest value in the range. Among the features that I’d talk about, there are the Dragon Chest Free Spins, collected Dragon Coins, various modifiers and upgrades, along with a Dragon’s Eye Wild.

Dragon's Cache Betting and Prizes

$0.20 will be the absolute lowest bet that a player will be able to select in Dragon's Cache. The amount used in the wager goes up from there, and it has an upper limit of $50.

Dragon's Cache slot doesn’t do too bad of a job when it comes to getting you paid. At its best, this slot machine could pay up to 5,000x the stake, using a fixed jackpot during one of its main features. Regular combinations don’t look as impressive, since they pay at most 200x the stake (10x per line).

With several RTP values included in the range, Dragon's Cache can be a good option if you find it set to 96.47%, but there will also be values to watch out for.

Slot Features

The Dragon’s Eye will serve as the wild in this case, a substitute that will help you form all sorts of regular symbols when it can act in that role (the rest of the symbols for the combo need to be present on the same line). If you line up 3 to 5 wilds on a line, they pay directly, between 1x and 10x the stake. Wilds do not replace Coin symbols.

As for the main feature, it will trigger at random during spins when you have at least one Dragon Coin present on the reels. The Dragon Coins you get will be collected at the top, of a corresponding chest (green, red, or purple coins, and chests are used). Depending on the collected coins, you get certain upgrades from the chests, once the free spins trigger.

Green Chest awards 5 free spins, along with 40 paylines (up from 20 in the base game). On the other hand, the reels now have 6 symbols each. Wilds expand to take over the entire reel when one lands.

Red Chest is used to give you 10 free spins. Gold Coins may land in this mode, and they will either deliver a letter from one of the jackpot names, or a prize. Ideally, you will collect the letters from the word MEGA, since it pays the most, 5,000x the stake. Three smaller jackpots are also included.

Purple Chest will give you 5 free games. Gold Coins may land, each giving you either a prize or 1-2 free spins. Multipliers are applied, random ones that boost wins by 2x, 3x, or 5x.

You can have multiple chest upgrades available at the same time.

Theme & Design

It’s the old idea of the dragon sleeping on mountains of gold coins, made popular in the LOTR universe in particular, where Smaug is shown doing the same thing. We see those piles in the background, but there is no trace of the dragon there.

As for the reels, they’re populated with images of various Dragon Coins, a Dragon’s Eye as the wild, a Golden Dragon, two Knights, swords, and shields, along with the low-paying Royals, 9 to A.

Conclusion

All in all, Dragon's Cache slot has the right numbers behind it, along with a unique blend of special features. While I’m not impressed with the quality of its graphics, the slot works well as it is.
