Book of King Arthur Slot Machine: Review & Demo

Book of King Arthur Slot Demo

Microgaming is going to launch a new exclusive game via JFTW (Just For The Win), and its name is going to be Book of King Arthur. If you guessed that this was based on the Book genre you’d be right, but it has its own advantages as well, such as the use of the King Arthur theme. With 90% of the other Book games using Ancient Egypt for their theme, it’s always nice to see a slot doing things differently, even if it’s only true of its story.

Book of King Arthur will offer the player 10 active lines, over a game area with 5x3 reels. Highly volatile, but with a 96.10% RTP and a jackpot which could reach 5,000x the stake, it’s showing the same characteristics as most titles which have the same mixed wilds and scatters, or the free spins with expanding symbols.

Book of King Arthur Betting and Prizes

While there is the option to spend as much as $50 on each spin, Book of King Arthur also has a low enough starting point of $0.20, so everyone can try it out.

If you can afford to spend twice the base amount, the Boost option sounds expensive but it also adds expanding wilds to the reels, rather than regular-sized ones.

Should you have combinations of five King Arthur symbols forming on its lines, and each one will pay 500x the stake (5,000x for 10 lines doing this). It’s not that unlikely, at least compared with other Microgaming slots, since the free spins are designed to give you decent odds at forming combinations on 10 lines at a time.

On the other hand, you can also expect for such wins to come with difficulty, as this has to be highly volatile by design. 96.10% is the RTP though, so this tells us that it’s doing alright long-term.

Slot Features

Its features are quite common and expected, and you find them in the same form in dozens of other slots.

There is only one feature symbol, to fulfill the roles of both wild and scatter. You can get between 1 and 5 such symbols at the same time, and if the Boost option is active, they will even be the type to expand and cover full reels. Either way, they are used as substitutes and may help you form new combinations of symbols.

The number of wilds also determines what kind of payouts and features will be coming your way. 2x to 200x is the range of potential prizes, while the feature consists of 10 free spins. The game makes a random pick, of a regular symbol which will become special for the entire duration of the free spins. It will expand whenever it shows up on the reels, and will form combinations just based on the number of columns where it happens, paying as a scatter on the 10 lines.

Theme & Design

What you’re looking at here, is a slot machine which borrows from a category that’s been typically associated with Ancient Egypt, ever since the original Book of Ra was released. Right now, we’re getting a Camelot themed title though, which has King Arthur in the main role, while other major symbols show us Excalibur (his sword), the Holy Grail or a Shield. On the other hand, its Royals are the usual ones, 10 to A, and of fairly low quality. Other than that, you also have a Book symbol on the reels.

I wasn’t terribly impressed with Book of King Arthur’s design, it’s what you can get from many others, so it’s average at best.

Conclusion

With Book of King Arthur, you might not get a lot of cool new features, but the change of theme could be enough for some to want to check it out. The Boost option and its expanding wilds could also prove a fun distraction, if you can afford it.
