Aureus Slot Machine: Review & Demo
As far as unusual games go, Aureus is one of the slots that will definitely get your attention. Whether it will also hold it in the long run, that’s another matter. This is the product of the collaboration between Microgaming and Crazy Tooth Studio, one of several slot machines that have appeared as exclusives this way. It’s dedicated to Ancient Rome, and to the god Jupiter in particular.
Aureus offers us 7 reels and 5 rows of symbols and brackets, in what they’ve called the Coinverge system. It’s not standard gameplay for a slot machine, and that unique side might appeal to some, especially with rewards of up to 2,000x and a 96% RTP. Special features will give you multipliers, respins, upgrades and symbol collections.
Aureus Betting and Prizes
There is a standard betting range that you can use, between $0.20 and $80 per spin.
As for the payouts that you can hope for, 2,000x is the return on the total bet that is promised, for the best case scenario. With the right wager, this could bring you up to $160,000. Another figure to look at, is the value of the RTP, and it sits at 96% here.
Slot Features
Highly unusual for a new slot machine, the Coinverge system will rely on 7 reels, out of which 3 will be used to display coins that get you paid, and 4 are for the brackets which need to show up in pairs around collection areas. All coins found within the collection area will get you paid, and each one has a different value written on it.
The game has three types of brackets, when it comes to the size they occupy. 1 High, 2 High and 3 High Brackets will cover 1, 2 or 3 rows of symbols, respectively. You have both opening and closing brackets available, and both need to appear around the same rows, in order to create a collection area there. The reels 1, 3, 5 and 7 are the ones which can get these brackets. 1, 3 and 5 get Opening Brackets, while 3, 5 and 7 get Closing Brackets.
As for the coins that you will get in the collection area, some of them can have prizes, while others will trigger features. The coins can land on reels 2, 4 and 6.
- High Credit Coins have prizes in the top range.
- Medium Credit Coins are medium-sized rewards.
- Low Credit Coins offer small prizes.
- 2x to 5x Multiplier Coins will boost wins by 2x to 5x, for all coins in the collection area.
- Upgrade Coin (boosts the value of low and medium coins, to the top ones).
- Collect Column Coins will include all coins from its column into the collection area.
- Collect All Coins will give you prizes from all coins present on the reels at that time.
- Respin Coins 2, 3 and 5, will give up to 5 respins.
Theme & Design
Taking us to Ancient Rome, we discover the temple of Jupiter, and the god himself sitting next to the reels. Jupiter is the Roman version of Zeus from Ancient Greece, so he’s got the same look, complete with white beard and lightning bolt. It’s not a particularly well made game, the graphics are average at best, and having only coins on the reels doesn’t impress me either.
Conclusion
Aureus manages to deliver some adequate rewards, but its biggest strength lies in its ability to deliver interesting and unique mechanics. Will that be enough to make it a fun option in the long run? I doubt it, I found it quite boring, despite its unique side.
